I had the opportunity to Join the conversation about Charlotte's rich past and promising future with Brenda Tindal, Staff Historian at Levine Museum of the New South, and Daniel Levine, visionary, developer and President of Levine Properties. During the discussion the panelist reflected on the past and discussed the challenges and opportunities our region faces as we continue to be one of the fastest growing cities in the country. Did you know? From small farms and textile beginnings, Charlotte is now the second largest banking center in the U.S. and a bustling metropolis. Through the Charlotte Hornets Teacher Innovation Grant received by Ebony Locket and Curtis Overton, students are making a difference at West Meck High School. Students within the scientific visuals program can now utilize 3D printer and CNC Machine to create products, inventions, and ideas while improving the school. Students are able to boost school morale and provide a spaces that students can apply skills and knowledge learned in the classroom into real world applications. Students will use design skills, measuring and designing to real world scale, in order to construct shelves, cabinets, signs, cases and items to establish West Mecks school store. Students will apply the Elements of Design to create functional furniture pieces from Digital 2D and 3D software to machined and finished products and items. The CFA Leader Academy’s Leader Lab 6 focused on every action has an impact. Students were encouraged to do their best to make an impact and “act as if what you do matters, because it does.” WM CFA Leaders hosted a Spirit night with our Partner Store on Thursday, April 13, 2016. The funds raised from this event support our final Impact Project for the year.
April 11-13 in Greensboro, NC. Our chapter had three students compete and they all earned a bronze medal on each of their projects. Kristopher Thomas completed a Nutrition and Wellness project called "Hawks Krave Wellness" which created nutrition and wellness goals; Mariyah Stone presented in Illustrated Talk her project entitled "Don't Quit Just to Sit", which was about preventing high school dropouts and the importance of CTE course enrollment; and Olivia Watts competed in the Life Event Planning category a project on planning and hosting a Sweet 16 party.
