JA Job Shadow Day with West Mecklenburg Academy Students at Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft LLP - Friday, October 28, 2016
On Friday, October 28th Twenty-Eight students enrolled in West Mecklenburg Academy of Hospitality & Tourism and The Academy of Business & Entrepreneurship participated in the JA Job Shadow experience at Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft LLP.
The students had a three part experience prior to our site visit the student’s completed research on the company, created their 30 second pitch and reviewed Job Tips with the Academy Coordinator Sherri L. Moore.
The second step of the experience the students visited the Uptown Charlotte Office for a day which included presentations from Managers, Recruitment Coordinators, Associates, Partners and an Office Tour meeting various employees. During the Partners presentation the students participated in a Case-Study scenario. Words of Wisdom were provided by Stu Goldstein, Partner “There is no magic wand – you have to make your own opportunities. The grades you make now-count now – do your work- get the best grades you can. If you don’t do it- you will have no options.” “It’s all about Options”
The day also included breakfast and lunch with Associates and Partners with a small-group chat. Each student was able to talk to the Associates during lunch the topics varied.
The third step the students will complete a Career Assessment and the date with be returned to JA our community partner. Special thanks to Amy Korb for the opportunity to participate in this experience.
Cadwalader was impressed with our students’ preparation and behavior we have been invited back to participate in a Women’s Finance Workshop with the Women’s Leadership Initiative in 2017.
