West Mecklenburg High - The CTE Academy of Hospitality & Tourism and Business & Entrepreneurship hosted its Fall 2016 Career Networking Event on Thursday, November 1, in the school Media Center. Representatives from more than 20 for-profit, government, and non-profit organizations were available to meet with students regarding careers, volunteer opportunities and future internship opportunities. Registered organizations represent a wide range of fields, and employers include 2HotRadio, Cheryl McCullough Writes, Unique Background Solutions, Mountain Island Library, CMS/HR, CityYear, Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office, CASHRM, YouthEmpowerment Services, and Divine Essence Total Bodycare amongst other. Students from both Academies, were encouraged to attend. Matt Sadinsky says, he personally connected with fifteen students. He emphasized the importance of communications, math, computer skills and science classes as they are essential to success in many careers. He goes on to say students were energetic and took notes and turned their notes in for feedback from the Academy Coordinator, Sherri L. Moore. Matt says it was a good morning for partners and students. He will encourage other CASHRM members to come out and speak with students during our Wednesday presentation days for the Academy. Sherri Moore, Academy Coordinator says the support the stakeholders played is an important role for moving our Academy work forward. Moore says there are various opportunities available to support the Academies at West Meck. On Thursday, November 17 there is a Networking Event hosted with an academy partner, CPCC.
